Internet Use Policy

In response to advances in technology the Enumclaw Public Library provides access to the Internet in keeping with its role as a source of information, intellectual development and enrichment for the community.

The Internet, as an information resource, enables the Library to provide information beyond the confines of its own collection. It allows access to ideas, information and commentary from around the globe. Currently, it is an unregulated medium. As such, while it offers access to a wealth of material that is personally, professionally and culturally enriching to individuals of all ages, it also enables access to some materials that may be offensive or illegal. The Enumclaw Pubic Library does not monitor and has no control over the information accessed through the Internet and cannot be held responsible for its content. It is the users responsibility to use it wisely and appropriately.

To ensure the equitable delivery of all Library resources, the amount of time that staff has to provide Internet instruction is limited. Library staff will identify specific starting points for searches on the Library's home page that are appropriate to the Library's mission and service roles.

Internet resources accessible through the Library are provided equally to all users. Parents or guardians are responsible for Internet information selected and/or accessed by their minor children. A parent or guardian must provide written approval before a person under fourteen years of age will be allowed to use a Internet workstation.

Internet user must:

  • Follow all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations.
  • Avoid any activities that might be disruptive to other library users
  • Make no attempt to damage equipment, alter settings or install any software.
  • Respect international copyright laws and honor software-licensing agreements.
  • Sign an Internet User Application.

Individuals will be limited to a sixty-minute period. A maximum of one hour per day will be allowed.

Sign-up will be taken to use an Internet workstation. Failure to be present at the scheduled time will result in cancellation of the reservation

Downloading of data, files, and software may be done to removable media, e.g., compact discs, and flash memory cards. Data, files, and software downloaded from the Internet may contain a virus and you may need to have virus-checking software on your computer or equipment. The Enumclaw Public Library is not responsible for damage to patron's removable media, computer, or equipment, or for any loss of data or damage or liability that may occur from patron use of the Library's computers or Library’s access to the Internet.

Downloading to the Library’s computer hard drive is not allowed.
